The Pittsburgh Steelers promoted running back Lew Nichols to the active roster for their Week 5 game -- a bad sign fro Rico Dowdle.

The Pittsburgh Steelers have elevated running back Lew Nichols from the practice squad ahead of their Week 5 game against the Indianapolis Colts. The move signals potential bad news for veteran running back Rico Dowdle, who remains officially questionable due to a dislocated toe on his left foot and was limited in practice all week.
This marks the third consecutive week Nichols has been elevated to serve as depth behind starting running back Jaylen Warren. Head coach Mike McCarthy indicated that young backs may receive increased workloads with Dowdle sidelined, though Pittsburgh must sign Nichols to the 53-man roster to play him again after Sunday.
