The Pittsburgh Steelers placed wide receiver Roman Wilson on injured reserve Saturday due to a finger injury sustained in Week 5 against the Indianapolis Colts. Wilson will miss at least four games, with the earliest possible return coming in Week 11 against the Philadelphia Eagles. In response, Pittsburgh signed running back Lew Nichols to the active roster and elevated wide receivers Brandon Smith and Brandon Johnson from the practice squad.
Wilson's absence leaves Pittsburgh's wide receiver corps depleted, as Michael Pittman Jr. remains on IR and Ben Skowronek deals with a calf issue. DK Metcalf and Germie Bernard will serve as the top wideouts, while Smith and Johnson provide depth for the upcoming game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Nichols required a signing to the 53-man roster after exhausting his three practice squad elevations.
