The 49ers' DeForest Buckner is reclaiming No. 99 after returning to San Francisco, leaving second-year defensive tackle C.J. West needing a new jersey number.

Newly acquired defensive tackle DeForest Buckner will wear jersey No. 99 in his second stint with the San Francisco 49ers. Buckner reclaims the number he wore during his first four seasons with the franchise after being acquired from the Indianapolis Colts in exchange for a 2027 fourth-round draft pick.
Defensive tackle C.J. West, who previously held No. 99, will switch to an unannounced number upon returning from injured reserve. Buckner, originally drafted seventh overall by San Francisco in 2016, returns to bolster the defensive line with a career tally of 75.5 sacks and 683 tackles.
