The Story in 60 Seconds

San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk faces a $13 million bonus forfeiture complication as he seeks his release from the team. Aiyuk filed for reinstatement from the reserve/left squad list and plans to report to the team facility on Friday. According to NFL insider Tom Pelissero, the NFL Management Council and the NFLPA are working to resolve whether the money will be repaid or sent to arbitration.

Aiyuk was placed on the reserve list last December after halting communication and rehab following serious knee injuries in 2024. Head coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch indicated the franchise has mentally moved on, with Lynch stating the team is working with the league to navigate the unique situation.
