The 49ers should still be looking to add an edge rusher via trade, but if Khall Mack goes to another contender, then maybe the Texans can provide an alternative.

A mock trade proposed by CBS Sports suggests the San Francisco 49ers acquire edge rusher Jadeveon Clowney from the Houston Texans ahead of the trade deadline. Writer Nick San Miguel highlights this proposal as an alternative target if San Francisco misses out on Los Angeles Chargers pass rusher Khalil Mack.
Under the proposed terms, Houston would send Clowney and a 2027 seventh-round pick to the 49ers for a 2028 sixth-round pick. San Miguel argues Clowney, who is on a one-year deal, would provide valuable depth alongside Nick Bosa.
