Andy Dalton, who lost his spot as the Eagles' backup quarterback following a costly interception against the Bears, has been released, sources told NFL Network.

The Philadelphia Eagles released veteran quarterback Andy Dalton on Friday, according to sources reported by Mike Garafolo. Dalton initially secured the primary backup job behind Jalen Hurts following a trade from the Carolina Panthers in March. However, he was demoted after throwing a costly interception during a Week 3 appearance against the Chicago Bears, leaving Tanner McKee as the No. 2 quarterback alongside rookie Cole Payton.
A source noted that Dalton could potentially return to the Eagles via the practice squad. The roster move comes as Philadelphia manages severe roster strain, including Lane Johnson's retirement, Cam Jurgens' trade to Baltimore, and multiple injuries ahead of their matchup with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
