The Atlanta Falcons have officially named Cooper Rush as their starting quarterback for the Week 2 matchup against the Carolina Panthers. This decision comes despite a disappointing Week 1 performance from Rush and strong preseason play from undrafted rookie Jack Strand. With Michael Penix Jr. and Tua Tagovailoa still recovering from injuries, the Falcons are relying on their backup signal-callers.
During the preseason, Strand completed 24 of 36 passes for 305 yards and one touchdown, adding 29 rushing yards and two scores. In contrast, Rush struggled in a Week 1 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers, completing 12 of 22 passes for 143 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions, including a critical pick-six.
