Blue Jackets Receive Good News as Fantilli Talks Ongoing, But One Issue Remains

Contract extension negotiations between the Columbus Blue Jackets and center Adam Fantilli are ongoing, with both sides aiming to reach a permanent agreement before the regular season begins. Insiders Darren Dreger and Chris Johnston reported that the average annual value is likely to exceed $13 million, with Columbus already offering an amount above that mark. The main remaining obstacle is reportedly contract term rather than money.

Pierre LeBrun indicated that Columbus is open to reaching $13.5 million annually if granted additional term, while Fantilli's camp is considering a four- or five-year span. Although Fantilli has missed training camp, Johnston noted the forward is nearing a return to Columbus, and LeBrun expects a deal to be completed before opening night.
