The Sabres goaltending situation has caused some headaches so far, but the impending return of Alex Lyon should provide some much-needed stability for Buffalo.

Buffalo Sabres goaltender Alex Lyon returned to practice on Monday as he enters the final stages of recovery from an upper-body injury. The 33-year-old expressed eager anticipation about returning to game action, stating he is eager to play after previously pausing his rehab due to a setback. Lyon has yet to appear in a game during the 2026-27 NHL season.
His impending return is expected to restore Buffalo's three-goaltender rotation alongside Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen and Colten Ellis. Head coach Lindy Ruff also provided additional team updates following Monday's practice, noting that forward Jiri Kulich exited concussion protocol, Conor Timmins and Justin Danforth resumed practicing, Konsta Helenius is week-to-week, and Zach Benson missed the session.
