This former Sabres defenseman is heading back to the AHL.

Defenseman Ryan Johnson has been assigned to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins of the AHL by the Pittsburgh Penguins just one week after acquiring him. The former first-round pick of the Buffalo Sabres was traded to Pittsburgh along with blueliners Caleb Jones and Daniel Laatsch going the other way.
Johnson did not make an appearance for Pittsburgh during his time on the NHL roster, sitting out as a healthy scratch. The move to the AHL allows him to resume playing game action after previously skating in four games for the Rochester Americans earlier this season.
