The Buffalo Sabres secured a 3-2 victory over the Los Angeles Kings on Saturday while blocking 30 shots, reaching one of the league's highest single-game totals this season. The strong defensive display provided crucial support for goaltender Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen, who made 27 saves on 29 shots after entering the contest with an .866 save percentage.
Buffalo's 30 blocks tied the Ottawa Senators for the second-most in a game this season, trailing only the Philadelphia Flyers' 32. Writer Todd Matthews notes that while the Sabres have shown solid underlying 5-on-5 defensive metrics, their ability to sustain shot-blocking against more potent offenses will determine their climb in the standings.
