Columbus Blue Jackets’ head coach Rick Bowness caught the full attention of the hockey world at the end of last season when he went on a tirade about his players not caring about losing enough.
Columbus Blue Jackets forward Kent Johnson reflected on his challenging prior season, his interactions with head coach Rick Bowness, and his physical condition heading into the new season. Following end-of-season comments by Bowness and general manager Don Waddell regarding Johnson's weight loss, Johnson discussed how an offseason training injury and a compressed summer schedule contributed to him arriving at training camp lighter than intended.
Johnson noted that the injury caused him to play parts of the campaign below 100 percent. However, he stated that he has since regained weight, added muscle, and appreciated Bowness's direct and honest communication regarding performance expectations as Columbus aims to rebound.
