The Story in 60 Seconds

The Winnipeg Jets have traded superstar goaltender Connor Hellebuyck to the New Jersey Devils in a permanent blockbuster deal. In return, Winnipeg acquired forward Dawson Mercer, recent 12th overall draft pick Alexander Command, and several additional assets. The departure of the three-time Vezina Trophy winner from the Central Division removes a major Western Conference rival for the Dallas Stars.

Hellebuyck compiled a 14-12-6 record with a 2.59 goals-against average against Dallas throughout his career. While Winnipeg relies on new goaltender Stuart Skinner, New Jersey upgrades its goaltending tandem of Jake Allen and Nico Daws. Dallas is scheduled to host the Devils next Tuesday, though Hellebuyck's status for the contest remains unconfirmed.
