The New York Rangers have signed veteran forward Luke Glendening to a professional tryout offer, the club announced on Monday. The move comes after newly acquired forward Joe Veleno was placed on long-term injured reserve with a lower-body injury that will sideline him for three months. Glendening had previously attended training camp with the Tampa Bay Lightning this fall on a PTO before being released.
Glendening, 37, spent the first eight seasons of his NHL career with the Detroit Red Wings, appearing in 554 games from 2013 to 2021. He split the previous season between the New Jersey Devils and Philadelphia Flyers. Glendening is the second former Red Wings player to join the Rangers organization within a week, following goaltender James Reimer's AHL tryout deal.
