A major storyline has come out Tuesday night as the Detroit Red Wings are “closing in” on a seven-year extension with forward Alex DeBrincat.
The Detroit Red Wings are reportedly closing in on a seven-year contract extension with forward Alex DeBrincat, according to Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet. Although the deal is not yet official, it is expected to carry an average annual value of $13 million. The Michigan native is set to remain committed to Detroit through his age-35 season, bypassing unrestricted free agency.
DeBrincat has started the season with four goals and eight points across his first six games. Detroit previously acquired the winger from the Ottawa Senators in July 2023, originally signing him to a four-year contract with an annual cap hit of $7.9 million.
