Though the Islanders did have a fair gripe that the hit was not initially whistled on the ice, the penalty itself was textbook.

New York Islanders forward Emil Heineman was ejected just 2:22 into Saturday's 4-0 loss to the Edmonton Oilers after delivering a knee-on-knee hit to Isaac Howard. The Islanders now await word on whether Heineman will face a hearing and subsequent league suspension for the hit, which was assessed as a major penalty.
Edmonton coach Mike Babcock reported positive initial signs regarding Howard's health, noting the team does not believe the injury is as serious as it appeared. Meanwhile, a potential suspension would further strain the depleted Islanders roster, who are already down several injured forwards.
