The Edmonton Oilers beat a couple elite National Hockey League clubs last week. Their upcoming schedule may offer challenges, but the calibre of opponent is slightly lower.

The Edmonton Oilers face a lighter stretch of competition following a challenging start to the 2026-27 season. The upcoming slate begins at Rogers Place against the Calgary Flames on Wednesday night, followed by consecutive road games against the New York Islanders on Halloween and the New York Rangers the next day.
Writer Sean Mallon argues that two wins out of three is a reasonable target for Edmonton despite dealing with injuries. Mallon notes that the Oilers need to address negative shot differentials and suggests goaltender Matt Tomkins could potentially start during the weekend back-to-back set.
