Oilers notebook: Vasily Podkolzin playing in rarefied space

Edmonton Oilers forward Vasily Podkolzin has registered seven goals and 11 points in his first eight games of the season. Podkolzin is currently skating on Edmonton's top line alongside superstars Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl. The trio has formed the highest-scoring line in the NHL, combining for 48 points and 19 total goals through eight games, including 14 at even strength.

Head coach Mike Babcock called Podkolzin a dominant two-way player who provides the line with crucial physical dimension, while McDavid praised his aggressive forechecking and net-front presence. In addition to scoring, Podkolzin ranks 11th in the NHL with 34 hits. Elsewhere, Edmonton forward Trent Frederic has engaged in two notable fights to defend teammates Evan Bouchard and Draisaitl.
