Florida dodged a disastrous blow as Paul Maurice confirmed his captain avoids the knife. The Panthers now navigate a two-month recovery window to keep their title hopes afloat.

Florida Panthers captain Aleksander Barkov will miss six to eight weeks due to a lower-body injury but will not require surgery, head coach Paul Maurice announced on Tuesday. Barkov sustained the injury during Florida's 4-3 overtime loss against the San Jose Sharks on Thursday. The timeline projects a return to action sometime in mid-to-late November.
The update comes as a relief to the organization after Barkov missed the entire 2025-26 season with a severe knee injury. Maurice noted that Barkov will focus strictly on rehabilitation as Florida concludes its season-opening four-game road trip in Los Angeles.
