New York Islanders defenseman Alexander Romanov suffered a torn ACL in his right knee and will miss the next six to eight months. The 26-year-old sustained the injury during the third period of the Islanders' 5-2 loss to the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden on Tuesday. Romanov is scheduled to undergo surgery and is expected to be placed on injured reserve.
This marks the second consecutive season Romanov has suffered a major setback after missing 67 games last year. Meanwhile, forward Mathew Barzal is scheduled to return to skating on Thursday as the team prepares to host the Chicago Blackhawks.
