Toronto Maple Leafs center John Tavares is week-to-week with a lower-body injury and could miss up to six weeks. The 36-year-old was injured during Thursday's 5-4 overtime loss to the Buffalo Sabres after an awkward third-period collision involving Josh Norris and Nick Paul. Tavares favored his left leg and did not return to the game.
The setback sidelines Tavares after he posted seven points in seven games this season following a team-leading 31-goal campaign last year. With Tavares out, Nick Paul moved to second-line center between Easton Cowan and Kirill Marchenko, while rookie Gavin McKenna joins the top power-play unit alongside Auston Matthews and William Nylander.
