The Story in 60 Seconds

Goaltender Erik Portillo stopped 32 of 34 shots, but the Ontario Reign suffered a 2-1 defeat against the Abbotsford Canucks on Friday night. Ty Mueller opened the scoring for Abbotsford before Kaleb Lawrence tied the game for Ontario in the second period off an assist from Koehn Ziemmer. Trey Fix-Wolansky then scored the decisive goal for Abbotsford, extending the Canucks' winning streak to eight games while handing the Reign their sixth consecutive defeat.

Ontario's offense struggled to generate momentum, managing just 22 shots on goal and failing to convert on three power-play opportunities, including a third-period five-on-three advantage. Head coach Andrew Lord was forced to run 11 forwards and seven defensemen after forward Jared Wright became a late scratch following warmups. The two teams are scheduled to conclude their weekend series with a rematch on Saturday.
