The Los Angeles Kings suffered a 4-1 defeat against the Edmonton Oilers on Tuesday evening at Crypto.com Arena, dropping their record to 0-3-2. Edmonton built a dominant 3-0 lead in the opening period behind a goal and two assists from Connor McDavid, along with tallies from Leon Draisaitl and Vasily Podkolzin. The deficit prompted Kings head coach Peter Laviolette to replace starting goaltender Darcy Kuemper with Anton Forsberg entering the second frame.
Brandt Clarke provided the Kings' lone goal late in the second period, assisted by Scott Laughton and Trevor Moore. However, Edmonton goaltender Devon Levi repelled the remainder of Los Angeles' 40 shots before the Oilers sealed the contest with a late empty-net goal. Following the loss, Moore and Laviolette addressed the team's ongoing defensive lapses and lack of offensive execution.
