World Series TV revenue depends a lot on ratings, but parity could cause some matchups to be less attractive nationally.

Writing for the Los Angeles Times, Bill Shaikin examines whether Major League Baseball owners are risking television revenue by fostering competitive parity in the World Series. The upcoming championship features smaller-market franchises, the Milwaukee Brewers and the Tampa Bay Rays, both of which had top regular-season records but lack previous World Series titles. Shaikin notes that while owners pushed for parity beyond big-market teams like the New York Yankees and Los Angeles Dodgers, expected lower viewership could impact national broadcast earnings.
The newsletter also covers local sports developments, including the Los Angeles Rams signing kicker Brandon McManus to replace the injured Blake Grupe. In the NHL, the Los Angeles Kings earned their first victory under head coach Peter Laviolette by defeating the Washington Capitals 5-2 behind two goals from Adrian Kempe, while the Anaheim Ducks dropped a 3-2 decision against the New York Islanders.
