Maple Leafs, Senators among teams to place players on waivers

NHL clubs placed a new group of 30 players on waivers on Thursday as rosters are trimmed ahead of the regular season. The Toronto Maple Leafs placed eight players on waivers, including Steven Lorentz, Philippe Myers, and Michael Pezzetta, while the Ottawa Senators placed goaltender Leevi Merilainen on waivers.

Merilainen, a 2020 third-round pick with 34 career appearances for Ottawa, was made available as the Senators carry goalies Linus Ullmark and Samuel Ersson. Other notable players placed on waivers across the league include Justin Kirkland of the Minnesota Wild, Kyle Burroughs of the Dallas Stars, and goaltender Matt Murray of the Nashville Predators.
