As the NHL starts up everyone is wondering what is the hold up between the Minnesota Wild and Quinn Hughes and why an extension isn't done yet.

Minnesota Wild defenseman Quinn Hughes remains without a contract extension as the NHL regular season approaches. Both Hughes and Wild General Manager Bill Guerin confirmed that negotiations are an ongoing process, with Hughes expressing comfort about playing into the season while talks continue.
Hughes enters the final year of his current contract, which pays $7.85 million per season, and has been extension-eligible since July 1. While the Wild are pursuing a long-term agreement, factors such as contract length and rising salary comparisons continue to surround the discussions.
