Montreal Canadiens defenseman Arber Xhekaj scored a goal against the Utah Mammoth on Thursday, breaking a nearly year-long goal drought. According to NHL EDGE, Xhekaj's slap shot registered at 97.22 mph, making it the fastest shot to result in a goal across the NHL this season. The goal came off an assist from Kirby Dach, beating goaltender Sebastian Cossa.
Less than five seconds after scoring, Xhekaj dropped the gloves on the ensuing faceoff for his second fight in consecutive games. The defenseman has now recorded a point in three straight games while stepping into regular ice time following injuries and the trade of Jayden Struble.
