The Montreal Canadiens secured a 4-3 overtime victory over the Buffalo Sabres on Saturday at the Bell Centre, yet remain without a regulation win eight games into the season. Buffalo took an early lead through Josh Norris before Montreal responded with goals from Zachary Bolduc, Cole Caufield, and Alexandre Texier. However, the Sabres rallied back with a shorthanded marker by Jack Quinn and a third-period equalizer from Tage Thompson to force extra time.
Caufield ultimately sealed the victory on a breakaway in overtime to score his second goal of the night against goaltender Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen. Goaltender Jacob Fowler stopped 23 of 26 shots for Montreal, while Oliver Kapanen made his season debut to help head coach Martin St-Louis roll four balanced forward lines.
