The Canadiens were recently connected to defenseman Simon Edvinsson but a trade like that really doesn't make sense for Montreal.

Brandon Croce argues that the Montreal Canadiens should not pursue a permanent trade for Detroit Red Wings defenseman Simon Edvinsson. Despite reported interest from Montreal according to insider David Pagnotta, Croce points out that the Canadiens already face a crowded blue line featuring an excess of left-handed defensemen such as Lane Hutson, Mike Matheson, and Kaiden Guhle.
Furthermore, Croce highlights financial constraints, noting that acquiring the restricted free agent would require a costly long-term contract. With Montreal holding limited salary cap space, the writer argues that general manager Kent Hughes should prioritize pursuing a top-six forward instead.
