The Montreal Canadiens are reportedly interested in acquiring Winnipeg Jets center Mark Scheifele via trade, according to analyst Nick Kypreos. Montreal general manager Kent Hughes is seeking a top-six center to support Nick Suzuki after failing to acquire Dylan Larkin earlier in the offseason, leaving Oliver Kapanen positioned to start on the second line.
Scheifele carries an $8.5 million salary through 2031, and potential trade assets reportedly linked to a deal include Kapanen, Michael Hage, Kirby Dach, and Samuel Montembeault. The pursuit comes despite lingering fan tension following Scheifele's hit on Jake Evans during the 2021 playoffs.
