New Jersey Devils goaltender Connor Hellebuyck posted an open letter to Winnipeg Jets supporters explaining that challenging family circumstances prompted his trade request. Hellebuyck expressed understanding toward fans disappointed by his departure, thanked Jets executive Mark Chipman and general manager Kevin Cheveldayoff, and requested continued privacy regarding personal family matters.
New Jersey acquired Hellebuyck on October 23 in exchange for Dawson Mercer, Nick Bjugstad, Nico Daws, the rights to Alexander Command, and two draft picks. The veteran goaltender has started 3-0-0 with New Jersey ahead of his upcoming return to Winnipeg on November 10.
