NEWARK, N.J. — The New Jersey Devils found themselves in an early hole, battled back twice and got a two-goal performance from Luike Evangelista, but ultimately could not overcome the Utah Mammoth in a 5-3 loss.

The New Jersey Devils fell 5-3 to the Utah Mammoth in Newark despite a two-goal performance from Luke Evangelista. Utah took an early lead on the power play before Evangelista tied the game on a 5-on-3 advantage for his first goal since joining New Jersey. The loss dropped the Devils' record to 1-2-0 on the season.
After MacKenzie Weegar put Utah back ahead, Evangelista leveled the score again at 2-2. However, goals from Nick Schmaltz, Lawson Crouse, and Vincent Trocheck sealed the victory for the Mammoth, while Jesper Boqvist tallied New Jersey's third goal in his season debut.
