The New York Islanders dropped a tighter-than-the-scoreboard-says game against the New York Rangers 5-2 on Tuesday night inside Madison Square Garden.

New York Islanders defenseman Alexander Romanov exited early in the third period with an apparent injury during a 5-2 loss to the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden. Following the game, Islanders head coach Peter DeBoer announced that Romanov is being evaluated and confirmed the team will provide an official update on Wednesday.
The game marked only Romanov's third appearance since missing most of the previous season due to a major shoulder injury suffered in November 2025. If Romanov is sidelined, DeBoer may be forced to reconfigure his defensive pairings, as depth defensemen Scott Mayfield and Matthew Kessel both shoot right-handed.
