The New York Islanders signed veteran defenseman Ben Hutton to a one-year contract carrying a prorated $900,000 salary following a professional tryout. Head coach Pete DeBoer added the 33-year-old left-handed blueliner to reinforce depth after blue-line injuries to Ryan Pulock and Alexander Romanov.
Hutton brings 575 games of NHL experience, having previously won a Stanley Cup with the Vegas Golden Knights in 2023. While DeBoer works to get Hutton into game shape, Pulock, Mathew Barzal, and Matias Maccelli took a positive step by skating in non-contact jerseys.
