New York Islanders defenseman Matthew Schaefer has displayed a significantly harder shot during the early stages of the 2026-27 NHL season. The 19-year-old blueliner has registered the 11th-hardest shot in the league this season at 95.81 mph, surpassing his top speed from his Calder Trophy-winning rookie campaign.
Schaefer's average shot velocity has also increased from 67.71 mph last season to 72.4 mph across his first eight games. He attributed the power gains to physical maturation and gym training rather than equipment adjustments, continuing to use a Warrior Covert QR7 Pro stick.
