The New York Islanders found a band-aid solution in Ben Hutton, given the relative lack of more permanent solution.

The New York Islanders have signed veteran defenseman Ben Hutton to a Professional Tryout (PTO) to address ongoing depth issues on their blue line. Nestor Quixtan of Eyes On Isles argues that the signing is merely a temporary stopgap rather than a permanent solution for the club's defensive problems. Hutton must still secure a full NHL contract before he can join the active roster.
The defensive unit has suffered notable absences, with Alexander Romanov ruled out for the season alongside an injury to Ryan Pulock. Hutton, 33, recorded six goals and 15 points across 55 games with the Vegas Golden Knights last season, and the writer expects him to primarily serve as insurance or a potential seventh defenseman.
