After enduring two grueling knee replacements, the veteran netminder returns to Madison Square Garden to test his remarkable recovery against a familiar rival in a high-stakes showdown.

New York Islanders goaltender Semyon Varlamov is expected to make his first NHL start since November 29, 2024, on Tuesday night against the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden. The veteran goaltender exercised his option and did not participate in the Islanders' morning skate prior to the matchup.
Varlamov, 38, missed the previous year and a half while rehabilitating from two partial knee replacements. He enters the final year of his $2.75 million-per-year contract following extensive physical therapy to facilitate his return to the NHL.
