New York Islanders coach Pete DeBoer believes heightened expectations have contributed to forward Simon Holmstrom's slow start to the season, leading to a demotion to the fourth line during Monday's practice. DeBoer explained that the 25-year-old forward may be overly focused on offensive production rather than the foundational habits that made him successful. Holmstrom has recorded one goal and one assist across his first five games.
Holmstrom is also managing a broken nose suffered during a recent 5-2 loss to the New York Rangers after being hit by a Sean Durzi clearing attempt. The forward agreed that he needs to be more involved on the ice as the Islanders seek lineup production amidst Mathew Barzal's knee injury absence.
