Pete DeBoer and Logan Stanley have a history, dating back to Deboer's time with the Kitchener Rangers…

New York Islanders head coach Pete DeBoer reached out to defenseman Logan Stanley with a personal text shortly after the blueliner signed a one-year contract. According to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman, DeBoer previously played pick-up games with Stanley's father while coaching the Kitchener Rangers in Stanley's hometown. Following the signing, DeBoer texted Stanley: "I’ve been looking forward to coaching you since you were seven years old."
Stanley went unsigned throughout the summer after spending the previous season with the Winnipeg Jets and Buffalo Sabres before agreeing to a late deal with New York. Through the first 13 games of the campaign, Stanley has excelled on the Islanders' top defensive pairing alongside Matthew Schaefer, averaging over 21 minutes of ice time per game.
