Matthew Schaefer is getting the recognition he deserves from some of the NHL's best dfensemen…
Quinn Hughes offered high praise to New York Islanders defenseman Matthew Schaefer following New York's 4-3 overtime victory over Hughes and the Minnesota Wild. Hughes highlighted that elite defensemen like himself, Cale Makar, Adam Fox, and Zach Werenski were still playing in college at 19 years old, while Schaefer is already excelling at the NHL level.
Hughes noted that Schaefer should develop into a top-three or top-five player in the league as he enters his prime. Schaefer, who won the Calder Trophy unanimously, has tallied 14 points in his first 13 games of the season.
