While Eklund came into camp as an underdog to make the roster, his inclusion was the obvious move by the end of it.

Victor Eklund has officially earned a spot on the New York Islanders' opening-night roster out of training camp. The team confirmed he will be with the NHL club as they open their regular season against the Toronto Maple Leafs in Toronto.
Eklund admitted that learning he made the squad was a shock, noting he never felt completely safe during the preseason. However, Islanders general manager Mathieu Darche described the choice to include the young forward on the roster as the obvious thing to do.
