Despite the season-ending injury to their star goaltender, the New York Rangers are looking strong heading into the first Hudson River Rivalry of the 2026-27 season.
Goaltender Dylan Garand and the New York Rangers enter Thursday's Hudson River Rivalry clash against the New Jersey Devils riding a hot streak. Garand has stepped up as the starter following Igor Shesterkin's season-ending injury, recently leading the Rangers (6-2-0) to a 4-1 victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning. Forward Alexis Lafreniere scored twice in the win, extending his point streak to five games under coach Mike Sullivan.
The Devils host the matchup following a 5-4 overtime victory against the Detroit Red Wings, secured by an overtime goal from center Jack Hughes. Jesper Bratt and captain Nico Hischier also scored for New Jersey, which is seeking its first winning streak of the season. Coach Sheldon Keefe's squad has won the last three home meetings against the Rangers by an aggregate score of 15-3.
