Off to a resounding start to the 2026-27 season, the New York Rangers ran into a serious speed bump Friday…

New York Rangers goaltender Igor Shesterkin left Friday's game against the Washington Capitals after sustaining a leg injury midway through the second period. Shesterkin jammed his right skate against the goal post at 8:20 of the frame and required assistance from teammates Sean Durzi and Marcus Pettersson to reach the dressing room. Dylan Garand entered the game in relief with the score tied 1-1.
Prior to his exit, Shesterkin stopped 13 of 14 shots and contributed to Alexis Lafreniere's first-period power-play goal. Shesterkin entered Friday's matchup with a 3-1-0 record, a 1.75 goals-against average, and a .926 save percentage to start the 2026-27 season.
