New York Rangers prospects Malcom Spence and Ben MacBeath made their official season debuts as college hockey opened non-conference play. Sophomore forward Spence scored a third-period goal for Michigan in a 7-2 victory over Bowling Green on Friday before helping complete a weekend sweep. Freshman defenseman MacBeath made his debut for Denver, recording his first NCAA point with an assist in a 4-1 win over Alaska Anchorage on Saturday.
Several other Rangers prospects appeared in preseason exhibition games over the weekend. Defenseman EJ Emery blocked two shots in North Dakota's 4-1 victory over Augustana, earning praise from coach Dane Jackson for his penalty-killing play. Michigan State defenseman Sean Barnhill registered six blocked shots in a 5-2 win against Boston College, while Raoul Boilard and Ty Henricks also featured in exhibition action.
