The Story in 60 Seconds

The New York Rangers are adjusting to life without star goaltender Igor Shesterkin, who suffered a season-ending lower-body injury against the Washington Capitals. Shesterkin was placed on long-term injured reserve, leaving 24-year-old rookie Dylan Garand to take over as the primary netminder with Spencer Martin serving as backup. Head coach Mike Sullivan confirmed Garand will carry the workload while veteran backup Joonas Korpisalo remains out for at least four more weeks with an injury.

Despite the setback, the Rangers defeated the Vancouver Canucks 6-2 on Sunday, with Garand making 19 saves to improve to 2-1-0 this season. Alexis Lafreniere added a goal and an assist, leading the team with eight points. New York now faces a three-game schedule this week, hosting the Tampa Bay Lightning before heading on the road to play the New Jersey Devils and Columbus Blue Jackets.
