The veteran defenceman was released by the Senators during training camp but found a new opportunity with the Islanders on Thursday, signing a one-year contract.

The New York Islanders have signed veteran defenseman Ben Hutton to a one-year contract, the team announced Thursday. The 33-year-old blueliner earned the deal just three days after joining the club on a professional tryout. Hutton had previously attended training camp with his hometown Ottawa Senators on a tryout basis in September, but was released after two preseason appearances.
The signing provides needed blue-line depth for the Islanders, who are managing injuries to Ryan Pulock and Alexander Romanov. Islanders head coach Pete DeBoer previously coached Hutton during their time with the Vegas Golden Knights, where Hutton later won a Stanley Cup.
