James Reimer's stint with the New York Rangers took a disappointing turn on Thursday.

The New York Rangers placed veteran goaltender James Reimer on waivers on Thursday after just one period of NHL action. Reimer signed a one-year, $850,000 contract with the Rangers on October 25 to provide emergency depth due to injuries to Igor Shesterkin and Joonas Korpisalo. In his lone appearance against the Los Angeles Kings, Reimer surrendered three goals on eight shots in the opening period before being pulled.
The waiver move comes 11 days after signing and suggests Korpisalo is nearing a return to the lineup. If Reimer clears waivers, the Rangers can assign him to the AHL's Hartford Wolf Pack. The quick exit contrasts with his previous stint with the Ottawa Senators, where he recorded a 7-4-2 record in 14 appearances.
