Three years after his brief and disappointing stay in Ottawa, Alex DeBrincat is reportedly set to cash in with one of the NHL's richest contracts.

Detroit Red Wings forward Alex DeBrincat is reportedly closing in on a massive seven-year, $91 million contract extension. According to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman, the deal carries an average annual value of $13 million, which would make the former Ottawa Senator the highest-paid player on the Detroit roster ahead of Dylan Larkin.
The lucrative extension follows a stellar 2025-26 campaign where DeBrincat posted a career-high 85 points and 41 goals for the Red Wings. Detroit originally acquired DeBrincat from Ottawa in July 2023 after he declined to sign a long-term deal with the Senators following a single 66-point season.
