Ottawa Senators defenseman Jake Sanderson exited Friday's season opener against the Toronto Maple Leafs after playing just 4:29. Sanderson tangled with Nick Paul, causing his knees to bend awkwardly. Head coach Travis Green stated that Sanderson removed himself from the contest out of concern that he reaggravated a previous lower-body injury.
Following Sanderson's departure, captain Thomas Chabot logged 27 minutes of ice time, while rookie Carter Yakemchuk took over duties on the top power-play unit. The Senators expect to learn more about Sanderson's status over the weekend ahead of upcoming road games against Boston and Detroit.
