Flyers’ Matvei Michkov Reacts to Russia’s Impending International Return

Philadelphia Flyers star Matvei Michkov welcomed the Court of Arbitration for Sport's ruling that allows Russia to return to international hockey in 2027. Russia has been banned from international competitions since 2022, and despite pushback from other nations, the International Ice Hockey Federation will reluctantly proceed with Russia's reinstatement. Michkov expressed excitement about the decision, calling the chance to represent the Russian national team his dream.

The 21-year-old winger previously made four senior appearances for Russia during the 2021-22 season. The first tournament potentially affected is the 2027 World Junior Championships in Alberta. Michkov, who has recorded nine goals and 11 points in 15 games this season, is expected to contend for a key role on Russia's roster in future senior tournaments.
